PHP & SQL Training — September 2024
A completed 6-week PHP & SQL cohort at IMT Computers, Ikeja — September to October 2024. Students built a real online store backend with full product management, from PHP fundamentals to a secure, deployed MySQL database.
Part of PHP & SQL
Session Overview
This PHP & SQL cohort ran for six weeks at our Ikeja, Lagos facility between September and October 2024, taking students from PHP fundamentals through to a fully working, database-driven back end. Rather than working through disconnected examples, every topic fed into one real project: an online store backend with complete product management.
Security and real deployment were treated as core parts of the curriculum, not an afterthought — students learned to connect PHP to MySQL securely with PDO, apply prepared statements to prevent SQL injection, and deploy the finished project to a live server, backed by a professional Git and GitHub workflow throughout.
What Participants Will Learn
Training Highlights
September 8, 2024
Week 1: PHP Fundamentals
The cohort started with core PHP — variables, data types, operators, control structures (if statements, loops, switch) and functions — the building blocks for every back-end feature that follows.
September 15, 2024
Week 2: PHP & the Web
Students learned how PHP powers real web applications: handling form submissions via GET and POST, working with sessions and cookies, and basic file handling.
September 22, 2024
Week 3: Relational Databases & SQL
The focus shifted to database design and SQL — writing SELECT, WHERE and ORDER BY queries, joining data across multiple tables, and modifying data with INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements, along with constraints, relationships and basic query optimisation.
September 29, 2024
Week 4: Git & GitHub, and Connecting PHP to MySQL
Students picked up a professional Git and GitHub workflow for back-end projects, then connected PHP to a real MySQL database using PDO, building working CRUD operations and applying prepared statements to prevent SQL injection.
October 6, 2024
Week 5: Building an Online Store Backend
Everything came together in a real project — designing database tables for products and orders, then building pages to add, edit, list and delete products, with data displayed dynamically straight from the database.
October 13, 2024
Week 6: AI Tools, Going Live & Certification
The final week covered using AI coding assistants to write and debug PHP faster, deploying the finished PHP and MySQL project to a live server and configuring a live database, before a practical project assessment, written exam, and award of IMT Computers certificates of completion.
